Kuopio's magnificent frozen lake is the venue for this major event in the world of ice skating - The Finland Ice Marathon. The meeting attracts ice skating enhusiasts from Finland, other Nordic countries, the Netherlands and many other countries around the worl.
The simple pleasures of exercising or just spending time outdoors are enjoyed equally by all: young and old, those just interested in keeping fit, and serious competitors alike. In previous years there have been as many as 1 500 skaters on the ice at the same time, not to mention the countless spectators.
The event's start and finish area is located in front of the Hotel Arctia. Two separate 12.5 kilometre tracks wind their way around the Kallavesi shoveline and nearby islands.
But The Finland Ice Marathon isn't just for the participants. There are lots of other interesting attractions and events, so supporters and spectators will find plenty to see and try out.
