Ars Nova - The museum of contemporary art
The Ars Nova exhibitions have been placed in noble surroundings. The building represents baroque classicism, it is known in Turku as the Rettig Palace, as it was originally built for consul general Hans von Rettig as a private residence. The Ars Nova exhibitions are divided into two parts: The Foundation's own collections, consisting of ca. 300 works, will usually be exhibited on the first (second) floor. In these collections, you will find works by such Finnish artists as Jan-Erik Andersson, Outi Heiskanen, Leena Luostarinen, Lars-Gunnar Nordström, Sam Vanni, Jan Kenneth Weckman, Kauko Lehtinen, etc., and foreign artists including Valerio Adami, Karel Appel, Max Ernst, Rainer Fetting, Anish Kapoor, Pablo Picasso, Vladimir Velickovic, David Hockney, etc.
On the ground (first) floor we have reserved rooms for various temporary exhibitions. The first one of these will be a selection from the Foundation's own collections. In the middle of June, an exhibition of works by the world-famous video artist Nam June Paik will be opened. It will be followed by the Arte artists' association's 35th-anniversary exhibition. The attraction for the end of 1995 will be an exhibition of works by the Indian-British sculptor Anish Kapoor.
